The ultimate test of whether you should send that e-mail

Updated Sunday June 29.

Everyone wonders at times whether the e-mail he or she is about to send will be regarded by the recipient as:

* Appropriate
* Justified, and
* Welcome.

Here's help. Seth Godin has put together a mega list of 36 questions to ask before you hit the send button.

My favorite: "Are there any little animated creatures in the footer of this email? Adorable kittens? Endangered species of any kind?"

My kids have a teacher who is lovely, adorable, smart and worth her weight in gold, but she sends e-mails with pawprints as a background. The e-mails are nearly impossible to read. And they make me squirm. I have to confess to a hatred of exclamation marks and smiley faces too, but am trying to learn to love them as they seem to be expected online!!!!

By the way, if something goes wrong and you hit send on an e-mail in anger, you may be able to get it back. See this funny video in my post, "Dear Jerk."
