Update on Google's search within search: Forcing vegetarians to eat meat

Google's search within search , which I wrote about this morning, is really making people mad.

But I love this post from Alan Rimm-Kaufman who likens the move to a restaurant giving hamburgers to vegetarians when they asked for tofu.

"Serving competitor ads against SWTS serps is a bad user experience, Google. You're ignoring what your users asked for," says Rimm-Kaufman.

"When someone asks for results from X.com, don't toss ads at them for Y.com and Z.com. That's tossing burger at vegetarians. Yes, you pick up additional revenue doing it, but don't be evil."

Thanks for the link, Julie.

The NYT ran with this idea today too:

I think Google will back down.

The issue is really really small in dollar and click terms, but leaves a bad taste, regardless.

Cheers
